Wheelchair Tennis Match Update
Three days into the medal rounds of the Invictus Games Orlando 2016, and the action has heated up each day. With the semi-finals of wheelchair tennis on deck, the four remaining countries are heading straight for an intense finale on Friday night.
In the first match of the day, the U.S. tandem of Javier Rodriguez and R.J. Anderson will face Kiwis David Sheriff and Kenneth Barnes. The winner will be watching the next match intently for their gold medal opponent, which will either be the UK team of Alex Krol and Andy McErlean or a tough Dutch squad, featuring Rodney DeVries and Edwin Vermetten, that swept their Australian foes in the opener.
Before the match, Rodriguez expressed his excitement to get out on the court and represent America, despite being a relative novice to the sport.
“Taking home the gold in tennis would be unbelievable,” Rodriguez said. “It would be a great step up from what we were thinking. I’m not a tennis player; I picked it up a few weeks ago. So if we can get that gold, that’d be awesome.”
