Match Update – Archery – Semi-Final – May 8
In the afternoon archery moved on to team competition. The scores from the individual event decided the seeding’s for the team archery semi-finals:
Open Recurve:
First place on points Great Britain faced fourth place USA. The steady eye and sharp shooting from team Great Britain carried them through to tomorrow’s final. Italy was second place in the qualifying and took on a strong French line up despite finishing in third in the preliminary rounds. It was close battle between the two European giants but France piped Italy to the post for the last place in tomorrow’s final.
Novice Recurve:
Great Britain fought it out to win against a youthful USA team that will be tough to beat in the bronze place play off. A very tight match between the Danes and the Canadians ended in a riveting win for Canada.
Open Compound:
The Canadian team was top point scorer in the preliminary rounds meaning they took on fourth place Great Britain who were champions from the last Invictus games in London. Top shooter Luc Martin led the way to a Canada victory meaning they will be favorites for tomorrow’s final. In the second semi-final, USA took on France in a close fought match, but USA pulled through with some awe-inspiring shots.
Support for all the athletes was electric with cheers echoing around the arena long after the last arrow hit the bullseye. It was a strong day of competition in the team archery has led excellent performances by the finalists; Canadian, USA, France and Great Britain, good luck to them all.
